Nollywood actress Regina Daniel recently spoke out on recent industry news. The actress did not hold back in her views and shared her opinions on the matter at hand through an exclusive interview with this website. What is your take on the current state of the Nigerian film industry?
The Nigerian film industry has come a long way in the past few years and the future is looking promising. The Nigerian Film Industry (NFI) is one of the world’s largest, with over 250 movies produced annually. The NFI has seen success in recent years due to increased government support for film production, which was not always a guarantee. This year has been a great year for Nigerian cinema both at home and abroad as evidenced by popular films such as Ojukokoro and Wedding Party 2.
In order to continue its success, Nigeria’s government needs to continue providing support for the film industry so that it can make more quality films that are competitive internationally.
How do you think the industry can be improved?
In an interview with Pulse Nigeria, the award-winning actress spoke about the Nigerian film industry and her role in it. She said, The industry needs to be regulated. We need a regulatory body that will oversee the production of films, from development to post-production.
Regina went on to say that producers are not being properly compensated for their work. It’s sad that we have producers who invest so much into a project and when it’s time for them to reap their rewards, they’re met with disappointment.
She also shared her thoughts on how women should be included in the process of filmmaking: Women are not taken seriously as far as filmmaking is concerned.

Do you think there is enough support for up-and-coming actors and actresses?
Regina Daniels, a Nigerian Nollywood actress and producer, speaks to the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy about the lack of support for up-and-coming actors and actresses. I am not against people who have been in this business for a long time, she says, But it is not fair for them to be at all times. There has been some recent controversy in Nollywood surrounding a new law that requires actors and actresses to have graduated from high school or have six years experience working in the industry before they can work. Many feel as though this is a way to prevent new talent from breaking into the field. To make matters worse, many young actors are leaving because they are unable to make enough money without formal education.
What advice would you give to someone who is looking to enter the industry?
- Make sure you know what it is that you want to do before you make any commitments to the industry.
- You should also have a backup plan in case your career doesn’t pan out as planned.
- It’s best to start making connections with people who are already in the business, so they can help guide you through your journey.
- If you’re looking to become a director or producer, take classes and workshops on how to produce and direct films before deciding if this is something that interests you as a potential career choice or not.
What projects are you working on at the moment?
I am so excited to announce that I have started my very own production company called Reverie Productions. The company will be a family affair, with my sister and daughter as partners! We are excited to produce films and TV series in Nigeria. As a child I always wanted to be an actor, but the dream was cut short when I had my children at an early age. Now I am able to live that dream vicariously through them and also share the experience with my family. Another project is our new restaurant, which will specialize in Nigerian cuisine. This is something we have been looking forward to for years now, as it means being able to bring our cuisine from Nigeria into the international market.
