Download The Woman King which was released on Netflix on March 1st of 2018, tells the story of the great warrior Akenatzy (Zuri), who led the Ashanti army in the late 19th century during the empire’s Golden Age. It’s a visually stunning film, with gorgeous costumes and amazing set design, but it suffers from an uneven screenplay that isn’t as cohesive as it could be. Still, it’s worth watching if you want to see some serious female badasses go to town on some male soldiers – yep, there’s lots of blood and guts! click here to download or watch this movie

Plot
Tired of the oppression from their male rulers, the women of a small African kingdom fight back. When the men make one too many demands, Queen Nya embarks on a dangerous mission to create an army of female warriors. But her subjects are reluctant to abandon their family lives for the uncertainty of war and no matter how hard she tries, she can’t convince them that victory is worth it. With her best friend’s life on the line, Queen Nya has no choice but to take matters into her own hands and go out there herself to find help.
Acting
I was skeptical of this film but it turned out to be a great film. The acting was phenomenal and the storyline was very good. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an inspirational movie or just a good movie in general!
Direction
The Woman King is a movie about a fictional African Queen named Nzinga Mbandi, who led her people to freedom from slavery. The movie has an all-female crew and the main character is played by an actress of color, Lupita Nyong’o. It’s hard to find female representation in media that isn’t just playing a sidekick or love interest. Lupita Nyong’o plays this role beautifully and it was amazing seeing her take on such an important historical figure.
Cinematography
I loved this movie! The cinematography was beautiful and the costumes were stunning. I felt like I was transported to a different time. It’s hard to believe that this is only based on a true story. It is an inspiring story of bravery and strength, especially for women and girls.
Music
This was one of my favorite movies to come out this year! The film is a fictionalized account of the early life of Nzingha (aka Ana Afonso) an 18th-century African warrior and queen, who led an army against the Portuguese colonialists in what is now Angola. Not only does it have all the elements that make for a good story (a compelling lead character, villains, and action sequences), but it also has a beautiful soundtrack with songs sung in Portuguese and Kikongo.
